The award presentation is scheduled for the organization’s 40th Anniversary Recognition Event on Tuesday, November 10, in Morristown.

Avenues in Motion began in 1986 as Morris County Rides, a nonprofit that grew out of a think tank called Morris 2000 and focused on easing traffic congestion through carpools and vanpools. It was renamed TransOptions in 2000 as its service area and programs grew, and took its current name in 2022. Based in Cedar Knolls, it now works with schools, businesses, public agencies and community leaders to improve mobility, the environment and quality of life in northwestern New Jersey through carpooling, vanpooling, mass transit, biking and walking.

Among its community services, Avenues in Motion helps towns earn Sustainable Jersey certification and adopt Complete Streets policies, which aim to make streets work for all users, not just drivers. It also offers pedestrian safety, teen driving and bicycle safety classes.

The recognition highlights the township and committee’s efforts to address how people travel safely through the community. The anniversary event also marks four decades of Avenues in Motion’s work connecting communities.
